IV Antibiotics
IV antibiotics are a type of medication used to treat bacterial infections. The medication is typically administered over a period of several hours or days, depending on the severity of the infection and the type of antibiotic being used.
IV antibiotics are different from oral antibiotics, which are taken by mouth. Because they are delivered directly into the bloodstream, IV antibiotics can reach higher concentrations in the body and may be more effective at treating infections that have spread to the bloodstream, infections in the lungs or other internal organs, and infections that are resistant to oral antibiotics. This method of administration also allows the medication to quickly reach the infected area and begin working to fight off bacteria or other infectious agents.
IV antibiotics can be effective in treating a wide range of infections, including pneumonia, sepsis, and infections in the urinary tract or bones. They may also be used to prevent infections in people who are at high risk, such as those undergoing surgery or chemotherapy.
